The Pioneer Movement

The Household Model comes out of a philosophy on aging and long- term care that is known as The Pioneer Movement. This common sense thinking offers the idea that human beings of any age have a need to have a normal lifestyle, to nurture one's soul, and to take care of the whole person. This is the model on which long-term care should be built – rather than with a medical model that treats the elderly or infirm as patients.

This philosophy originated in Scandinavia – where they had nursing homes as homes, bringing normalcy back into the environment, within all necessary regulations.

The Pioneer movement has started to create this by looking at the best practices from facilities all over New York State. It is now the trend all facilities are going for new builds in last 6-7 years
